Part-1: Classification of Drugs Worksheet
In this part of the assignment you will be researching medications used to treat urinary, gastrointestinal, and endocrine conditions. You will choose 2 medications for each classification and use the worksheet provided to include the following for each of the drugs:
- generic and brand name
- possible side effects and contraindications
- recommended adult dosage
- routes of administration / drug forms
- therapeutic use
- pregnancy category
- the drug reference used
Part-2: Creating Patient Education Materials
Patient education enables the patient to make informed decisions about his/her current treatment plan. It is important that the information you provide to your patients is in lay terms and that your patient responds with verbalizing an understanding.
For this assignment, research the drug Metformin. Use the space provided in this module’s worksheet and write 1-2 paragraphs explaining to the patient how this medication should be taken and when. Be sure to discuss any possible side-effects or adverse effects. Help the patient understand why this medication was prescribed.
